Lenders advice once again Thanks

Yes I wanted to ask all you lenders again and by the way thank you so much for your advice and time answering questions. I want to make sure Im hearing and understanding you guys right due to my very damaged credit with 2007-2008 accounts with charge offs as a bad debt, alot of collections, one judgement I think you get it. Well so you believe I should try to re-establish my credit with some postive paying on time such as 2-3 credit lines showing paid as agreed and just not try to settle these old accounts right? Will my credit score go up ok even with all the damage credit like charge offs ect.? What if I cant afford to pay off that one judgement totally? Any suggestions? I could probably settle that one judgement which is a credit card 4,000. I have thought about a credit repair professional to help, but it shows on my credit report about all these creditors will not remove these bad debts until 2015 so do you think it would be a waste of my money with hiring a credit repair professional until closer to 2015? Thanks for your advice and time. Hope you guys dont mind . by tracy._804_810 from Reeds Spring, Missouri. Dec 29th 2012 Reply

I wouldnt waste my time with a credit repair company. Many of them do not do what they promise. Continue to pay what you owe and make contact with the judgment to see if they will settle for a lower amount.

A far as the judgment goes, it is inevitable that you must have that paid off prior to purchasing a home. In addition, upon paying it off make sure that you have the satisfaction of judgment recorded by your local county clerk and recorder, otherwise it will not be shown as paid/satisfied on your credit report. Regarding the credit repair, I have to disagree with the above statement. Although there are many companies out there that do not perform as promised, there are some good ones as well just as any industry. I personally have had credit problems in the past due to a divorce, and would have never spent the time or money on a service such as this until I saw the results on a credit report for one of my customers 8 months after I had initially pulled their credit. I used Omega Credit Repair out of McKinney, TX, and they were able to remove several mis-reportings, and duplicates that appeared on my report. You do however need to have realistic expectations. They will not simply get items deleted that actually belong there, but will be able to identify areas where corrections can be made. I no longer have a phone number for them, but they can be found on any search engine. Good luck to you.

Judgements have to be paid, and paying it will not hurt your score. Again, if you want quick improvement in your score I recommend that you not pay off collections and charge-offs more than 12 months old but you may be required to pay them as a condition to get final approval from the lender giving you the mortgage so you need to have extra saving available for that purpose if required. A credit repair company MAY be able to get those that should no longer be reporting or are reporting incorrectly removed or corrected which can help - and the sooner those items are removed the more quickly your credit will impove. If you are going to wait til 2015 to buy there is no rush but if you want to do something in the next 6-12 months (possibly) get started soon. I also used to be skeptical about these services and I still only refer customers with certain types of situations after reviewing their credit report. You will definitely need current, open, active POSITIVE credit reporting to improve your score significantly and reasonable quickly - just getting rid of old items is not enough. at least 2 possible 3 current accounts is what you need - but NOT from finance companies. -Again, good luck.
