Mortgage rates shot back up to the highest levels in more than 7 years. Thursday's weekly Freddie Mac's rate survey data was announced today. The data is a comparison of last Monday and Tuesday against the rates/activities of this Monday and Tuesday. Mortgage rates, last week, took a major nose dive, creating new highs; rates hit their highest in the last 2 months and 4 months. This week shows no scaling back. Rates this week are headed towards long-tern highs. How long will it be before 30yr fixed rates of 5 percent are a thing of the past? Mortgage rates have increased for the 3rd day in a row now, marking today as the highest rates have been in at least 5 years (for some lenders), and the highest in 7 years for other lenders. Yesterday the bond market took more losses, only making things worse. Today bond rates edged higher. As previously predicted, mortgage rate took a nose dive. Today the average lender rates are back to the highest they’ve been since May 17th, 2018. Rates are now at four-month highs. Mortgage rates have had a bad few days this week; even after the Retail Sales report, that typically helps improve rates.
