Mortgage rates are flat today. The overnight bond trading session started week, and is now holding ground. The reason for the lack of any significant movement is likely the anticipation of next Wednesday's FOMC announcement. This announcement is the one in which Yellen is calling a press conference to go over the likelihood of a Federal Reserve rate hike in December. Whenever there is a big event like this looming, rates tend to consolidate and trade in very narrow patterns. A lot can happen between this week and next week, but the question at hand is WHAT? Today's only data release is the Housing Starts, which is expected to come in strong at 1.164 million. Also in queue for this week are a couple of Fed speakers making commentary, which is likely to be highly scrutinized, as we are looking for any indication on the Fed's current stance. Check back tomorrow to see what mortgage rates do next.
