Yes, there are laws that still apply. Simply disputing the account normally is not enough, often it is a requirement for a dispute to be removed or resolved. There are a number of credit repair services around that can be helpful for price. Be prepared, it's generally not a quick process.
Yes it does still apply.
Credit repair companies can make many claims, but I insist no one is better than the person desiring to repair their credit at repairing their credit! It is often just a lack of knowledge or apprehension about having to face up to each derogatory trade line on one's credit report and dealing with the necessary phone calls, etc. to help eliminate some of these negative trade lines. It is very difficult but sometimes can be accomplished. Without admission to a specific "old debt" one can negotiate for a "credit delete letter." Many will say they can not provide that...only a letter to say the debt had been paid in full...at best. With tenacity you just might get enough "credit deletes" to increase your mid fico score by 100 points or more! Such is the most difficult project towards credit repair. The easier stuff would be to paid down revolving debt, and on a longer term basis, reestablish accounts that demonstrate on your credit report you pay your debts on time.
