DPA for conventional mortgage. ccould i avoid paying the mortgage isurance? by graham.lorie7843395 from Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Aug 29th 2014
There are no DPA programs that would help you avoid mortgage insurance. The fact that you would need DPA money to purchase a home in itself make your loan much more risky than someone who put 20% or more down. DPA programs aid low income borrowers in the MINIMUM down payment requirements necessary to purchase a home. You can use the DPA monies for FHA or conventional, but with conventional, you will need a total of 5% or more down payment from your own funds. Any DPA funds would be applied after your contribution. I'm a Broker here in Scottsdale AZ and I only lend in Arizona. We don't any down payment assistant programs for conventional loans but we allow the down payment to be 100% gifted.
