Yes. A VA streamline refinance requires an existing VA loan. ~ Bert Carpenter, The LoansA2z team of NOVA Home Loans ~ NMLS 40586 ~ www.LoansA2z.com ~ 888-889-9950

You can refinance any type of loan into a VA refinance.. (Assuming you have VA benefits), however you can only Streamline an existing VA loan into another VA loan.. But I'm confused.. The biggest benefit of VA financing is when you purchase a home.. You can do it with zero down.. if you're doing a refinance.. Your probably better off using HARP, or if it's FHA, an FHA streamline.. I'm a Broker here in Scottsdale AZ and I only lend in Arizona. If you or someone you know is looking for financing options, feel free to contact me or pass along my information. 480-287-5714 WilliamAcres.com

No, if you are eligible for a VA loan, you can refinance any other existing loan into a VA loan. However, VA Streamline refinance requires the existing loan to be VA.

You do not need a VA loan to do a VA refinance though if you want to do a VA Streamline (VA IRRRL) you do need to have a VA loan. The difference is a non-sreamline will require an appraisal, credit report, and income documentation.Michael913-207-4327

You can refinance your current mortgage to a va loan if you do not currently have a va loan. However, the full funding fee will apply. If you have and existing VA Loan then there is a lower funding fee charged by va and you can do a va streamline refinance. If you currently have a FHA loan that was done after June 2009 or a conventional you are paying mortgage insurance on moving your loan is beneficial. For my clients I do a detailed cost benefit analysis so you will know exactly how long it takes to breakeven and how much the refinance is saving you by the year. I am located in Topeka so we could actually meet face to face if you would like. You can reach me at 273-5004 or kdwall@kdwallstreet.com

To do just a full refinance which will include appraisal income credit and asset analysis you do not need a current VA loan. However to do a VA interest rate reduction loan, their version of a streamline you will need to currently have a VA loan.

You are not required to have an existing VA Guaranteed Home Loan in order to refinance into a VA Guaranteed Home Loan. However, in order to qualify for a VA Interest Rate Reduction Refinance (Streamline Refinance) Loan, the existing loan already has to be a VA Guaranteed Home Loan.
