The bond market is rallying a bit, so locking by the end of the day would be advisable...

That's a question you should be asking your mortgage broker/banker. If you can't trust him enough to ask him then you shouldn't be using him or her.

You should lock.. When rates improve, they do so ever so slightly over several months, but when rates deteriorate, they do it quickly, and in some market's in as little as few days.. so the chance for a significant increase in cost is far greater than any improvement you might gain by waiting it out.. if your within 30 days of closing, you should lock.. Speak directly with the lender you are working with. However, locking today is likely a smart decision.
