I cannot giving any legal advice nor do I know all the particulars of your denial from either a federally chartered bank, credit union or mortgage company. I highly recommend seeking a broker in Texas who could pre-qualify you and discuss your concerns about the reason they gave you for denying a mortgage loan.
Without knowing all the details of your particular scenario, it's difficult to say, but in general, borrowers with a felony conviction typically can still get financed. It might be a problem if your conviction was for finance related fraud, but there are no questions on the application that ask about felony convictions. Also, the credit reports no longer show felony convictions either, which is why I say that typically it's not a problem. You still have to have sufficient income, acceptable credit scores and show a work history over 2 years, but I've never heard of someone getting turned down because of a felony.. not saying it's never happens, but I've never see it.. Try reaching out to a local mortgage broker, and let him look at your complete loan profile.. once he has the whole picture in front of him, he can advise you properly.
