I read that rates would change because of the syria issue overseas, how and why does this affect mortgage rates?

It's possible but until the situation actually happens, no one will know for sure.. In general, when a huge economic or political event takes place, folks tend to shy away form purchasing anything.. it's a market killer.. so when the market goes crazy and stocks plummet, the investors will shy away from stocks, since their more volatile, and move to the more stable bond market, which is where mortgage backed securities are sold.. lots of buyers for these MBS's, means better rates for borrowers.. .. I'm a Broker here in Scottsdale AZ and I only lend in Arizona. If you or someone you know is looking for financing options, feel free to contact me or pass along my information. 480-287-5714 WilliamAcres.com

that is complicated question,in a nutshell, unrest and chaos in the world will cause uncertainity& speculation in the markets (a sell of or purchase frenzy of Stocks or Bonds) traders will sell off stock and move the funds into bonds and more stable longterm investment. When this happens the Bonds yields imporove and rates go down. or if traders sell off bonds to move the money to Stocks it an have the opposite reaction and increase the rates.Like i siad it is very complicated and not an exact science My advice , if your happy with the rate LOCK itErnesto Marezemarez@thefederalsavingsbank.com

The simple answer is that during times of unrest around the world people move their money to a safe haven. Bonds are a steady asset with a known return
