Mortgage rates reach a new 7 year high this week. This has been a rough week for rates, including the strong jobs report data, reflecting a high amount of new jobs in October. National housing affordability isn't just a concern of renters. The National Association of Realtors reported single family home prices increased in 98% of metro areas, 3rd quarter of this year. Mortgage rates have dropped back down, to a new 2 week low. This happened in response to the huge losses in the stock market this week. Most times there is not a connection between the stock market and mortgage rates; however, bonds do have a correlation to mortgage rates. Mortgage rates were not flat today, but rates sure did not move much at all and in some lenders cases, not at all. Freddie Mac reported mortgage rates have increased, on average, close to .25% over the last several weeks. As analysts are wary rates will drop back below 4%, we must remember that the current rates still remain at historic lows....

Mortgage rates have dropped to the lower levels we were seeing last week, specifically back down to some of the lower rates we saw on October 4th. The fast-pace drop in stock prices today, and yesterday, created the buzz that ultimately benefited mortgage rates as they dropped back down to last Thursdays lows.
