Southern Florida Repeatedly Hit by Mortgage Fraud

Southern Florida is a hotbed for criminal mortgage activity, it seems. The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network released a study detailing major mortgage fraud locations. Miami-Dade County, Broward County, and Palm Beach County led the pack. Los Angeles County and other parts of California followed close behind.

Southern Florida saw nearly 33 mortgage fraud reports logged per day during the final quarter of 2010, amounting to over 3,000 total reports for the quarter. As a whole, Florida was the source of over 5,000 suspicious mortgage activity reports.
