Sheriff Thomas J. Dart, of Cook County, IL, has informed several major banks and mortgage providers that he will not evict homeowners from foreclosed homes until sufficient proof of foreclosure has been provided. This follows recent claims made by public advocates that some large mortgage banks have acted fraudulently by foreclosing on thousands of homes across the nation. Sheriff Dart has refused to foreclose on properties in the past due to fraudulent mortgage activity.
