More Americans Worried About Making Mortgage Payments Now Than Ever

A poll conducted by the Washington Post has shown that a majority of Americans are concerned about their ability to make their mortgage payments in the coming years. The majority is small. But 53% of those polled ranked themselves as "very concerned" or "somewhat concerned," and this is significantly higher than the 37% who responded in this way in December of 2008.
As many as 70% of renters listed themselves as concerned about their ability to continue making rent payments. What these statistics mean for the real estate industry in America remains unclear, but a majority of American homeowners support the idea of a nationwide foreclosure freeze.
