The silhouette motif, pictured here, is definitely out of the ordinary. Kellie Tate created her masterpiece by tracing the shadows of each household member (don't forget the family pet if you have one) onto black cardstock, trimming, and then placing in an oversize frame. She painted her frame gray, added some orange, and also utilized scrapbook paper as a backdrop for the images. Simple pumpkins and a blackbird complete the theme.

Prefer to keep your already simple mantel uncluttered? Just add a few seasonal trimmings. Bundles of wheat and a few small pumpkins go a long way. Allison Hepworth decorates hers with ceramic gourds in a variety of colors.
