Flood WATCH & Warning in Carroll County, Maryland ~ Use Caution When Driving
Down SpoutFlood WATCH & Flood Warning in Carroll County, Maryland and much of the east coast. The Weather Channel reports the torrential rain will continue today and through the weekend as part of Tropical Storm Lee takes his soggy time passing through. Also see The National Weather Service and/or local weather reports.
Remember use caution when driving:
turn on your wipers, make sure they are operating correctly before you head out.Headlights
turn on your headlights so other drivers can see you, Maryland law requires the use of headlights when windshield wipers are in use.
slow down, hydroplaning happens when the water on the roadway accumulates faster than your vehicle can push it out of the way causing your tires to lose contact with the pavement and potentially slide on the layer of water.
stick with the route you know, if you must change your route...
communicate with loved ones with your estimated time of arrival
don't pass, it's already difficult to see & stopping distances are increased
watch for standing water, it can cause drivers to loose control. Also,
never drive through moving water, you don't know how deep it really is and at what point your vehicle will be disabled and or be washed away. Mother nature doesn't care how big and tall your 4X4 is or how close to your destination you are, moving water is powerful, don't take a chance we need you!
