Better to Hold off on that New Construction or Minor Overhaul

Monday, May 16, 2011 - Article by: Jim Brown - Gibraltar Bank - Message

Unfinished or homes under construction even if a simple remodel of the kitchen or bathroom will delay the approval and closing of your refinance. Final inspections by the appraiser who did initial inspection will have to be called to acknowledge that work is done. So if you are getting ready to tear things up better wait for that refinance to close before considering the work. Appraisers will come in your home smile say what a nice home you have and then go back to the office and give your home an "Incomplete". Next you will hear from your processor that you know that bathroom has to be done....But But you will say we have another bathroom and hey we already live there...Sorry finish it or don't close. Appraisers are under the gun to be sure every home is "perfectly lend able" period. So before you put a hammer to that wall...think twice if you just met with your loan officer.
