America is divided! Who do you root for? On one side, we have a young leader inspiring young men to achieve greatness. On the other, we have a young leader inspiring young men to achieve greatness. Unexpected underdogs seeded low who were able to achieve upset after upset. The sentiment is mostly that we wish VCU was playing Kentucky and Buter was playing Connecticut.
Tomorrow Butler and VCU match up in the most unlikely Final Four matchup. How can you not pull for the Bulldogs to return to the NCAA Final for a second year in a row? Small, private school who does things right and never angled to be a Kentucky or Connecticut going after the best players in the country. Coach Brad Stevens, not much older than his players getting the most out of kids who were overlooked elsewhere and proving that the fine line between player ability is getting smaller every day. Kids overlooked by Florida getting an opportunity to avenge the slight by beating Florida. Horizon League Champions who struggled early with the loss of their best player to the NBA. Everyone was gunning for them, they arrived at the dance with their conference bid and an 8th seed. They were not expected to make it this far, but here they are!
Virginia Commonwealth University has won the most games ever to reach the Final Four. They have cemented the argument for expansion of the NCAA tournament field. Watching them play they prove the fact that it isn't always about the players but more about chemistry. Shasha Smart is not much older than his players. They rely on a balance of veteran leadership, athleticism, sharp shooting, inside play and stingy defense. Nobody expected this team to get past the first round but watching them play Kansas a team everyone thought would possibly win the whole thing. The Rams of Virginia Commonwealth are the darlings of the NCAA tournament. They are fun to watch! Their coach is motivational and has pulled these guys together.
Tomorrow at 6:00 EST Butler and VCU tip off in an unlikely game. Who are you going to root for to play the winner of the matchup of two goliaths' of College Basketball: Kentucky vs. Connecticut? No matter which one you pick, I guarantee that most of American will be rooting for the winner of this game on Monday night. I know I will be!
On the mortgage front, I've held my rates at 4.75% when Freddie Mac reported another increase in the national average. I have posted in the past that rates are headed lower and I'm holding to that claim as the stock market reaches the high for the year and becomes even more ripe for a sharp sell off. I have analysts telling me that they are out of the market until Dow 9500. Rallies based on thin volume like this have no conviction and if you think about it, is the economy all that great?
