That is a great question. When applying for a mortgage the person with the lowest middle FICO score of all applicants is how the entire loan is underwritten and how the interest rate is determined. If that score is substantially lower it can decresase your maximum debt to income which can decrease your purchasing power. Someone with good credit on a loan does not offset someone with low credit. Mortgage companies use the lowest middle credit score for underwriting purposes.
