Would like to refinance, but have one item in collections. Will that be an issue? This is for a charge that I am in process of disputing.

More info needed, but in general, if you have a "Disputed" item (assuming it's not a medical collection), then you cannot get financing without having the dispute removed.. getting a loan with just one collection is not a problem in most instances so long as your credit scores as well as all other eligibility requirements are met.. The reason the lender will make you remove the dispute is because when you dispute an item, your credit scores do not take into account the effect of the collection.. it's as if it's not on your credit report at all.. A strategy we used years back was if we ran credit on an individual and they had several bad accounts, we would advise them to dispute them.. the score would go up, and they would now qualify.. This was short lived, and lenders caught on real quick.. and since then, the guideline is that disputes must be removed. I'm a Broker here in Scottsdale AZ and I only lend in Arizona. If you or someone you know is looking for financing options, feel free to contact me or pass along my information. William J.
