Will my credit be affected if I am dealing with several lenders at once?

I've heard that getting your credit pulled multiple times is detrimental by MFreeman from Newton, Massachusetts. Dec 4th 2012 Reply

if you allow several lenders to pull your credit inside of 30 days, then the first credit report will reflect the impact of a hard pull credit inquiry... any other mortgage lender inquiries within the next 30 days will have no impact on your credit score... I'm a Broker here in Scottsdale AZ and I only lend in Arizona. Probably not. The "Old wife's tale" about every credit pull hurting your score is no longer valid. Changes to the scoring model treat all inquires in a window of time as though they are one for score purposes. Keep in mind that this is industry specific. That means that if you have 12 inquiries from Mortgage lenders, in two week's time, that is one inquiry for the score model. But if you inquire for a mortgage, a line of credit, a credit card, a department store card and an auto loan in any time period that would be five inquires for the score model, because they are not for the same type of credit. ~ Bert Carpenter, The LoansA2z team of NOVA Home Loans ~ NMLS 40586 ~ Licensed in California and Arizona ~ www.LoansA2z.com 888-889-9950

If all the inquiries are within a short time period your credit shouldn't be affected, but the score may be less in 2-3 months because of the additional inquiries. You shouldn't need to have your credit checked by multiple lenders if you are a strong borrower. If you know your situation you should be able to check with different lenders and get estimates from them without them actually checking your credit until you commit to working with them. Their quote will be based on what you told them but has to be confirmed when you actually apply. (Former MA resident myself with relatives in Wellesley and nearby.)

Hello MFreeman, all inquires must be addressed when applying for a mortgage. multiple inquiries will not hurt you, however if not within a short period of time can. i'd be happy to sit down with you as I'm located in Newton and live there too
