Typically, it depends on how long ago the BK was and whether or not your home was included in the BK.. so more info would be needed.. But in general, if you had a BK and it was 2 to 4 years in the past, there might be a lender out there willing to do a HELOC.. understand that there are no "Conforming" set of guidelines when it comes to HELOC's.. every lender offering them will have their own set of rules.. For this reason, if you shop around, you will find varying answers.. typically, a local credit union or community bank is your best bet.. if you have a relationship with one of these types of institutions, then they would be the first place to look.. If you bank with one of the "Big Box Lenders", ie.. BofA, Chase, Wells Fargo,,, it's unlikely they will do it ... I'm a Broker here in Scottsdale AZ and I only lend in Arizona. We can do these with TCF Bank but, it depends how long in the past the BK occurred. Give us a call or shoot us an email if you want us to take a look. David Ortega - Satori Mortgage - info@satorimortgage.com - 954-900-9788 - www.SatoriMortgage.com
