what is the minimum credit score for a va home loan?

VA does not have a minimum credit score requirement.. but understand that VA does not lend money.. they only insure loans against default.. the lenders, or those with the $$$ will often times have their own rules above what VA requires.. it's these "Overlay's" that require minimum credit scores.. For most lenders, its 660 or above.. a hand full will go down to 620.. anyone stating they will go lower is probably misleading you.. although there are lenders out there that offer financing below 620, the guidelines become very strict, and most who apply are denied.. your better off working on improving your credit score then trying to find a lender willing to accept your low score.. I routinely can get loans approved as low as 580 scores. However, if we can get the score up to 600 the rates are much better. I have access to software which enable me to run unlimited scenarios for things we could do as well as how it would affect your score. In addition, I can use this software to project out in time so we can see what the effect will be in one month, or two, or more.
