What is the credit score needed for a conventional mortgage in 2014?

The higher the better with conventional financing.. but 620 is the lowest acceptable score.. Keep in mind that if your not putting 20% down, the mortgage insurance will be at a high cost.. you might be better off looking at FHA.. the starting rate is lower but the MI is more expensive.. but you should net an overall lower payment.. and FHA only requires 3.5% down payment.. You are able to get up to a 95% LTV Conventional loan with a minimum FICO score of 620.
