There are a number of factors that play into closing times - if planets align and things come in as they should (title, appraisal, inspections, your documents, etc), then it can be a couple of weeks and done. A more realistic timeline would be somewhere in the 30 day range; this allows ample time for things to come up and to avoid any disappointments.

Ron, it's going to depend on who you use as a lender. The appraisal is what takes longest ans usually takes about a week. The rest is processing and underwriting turn times. I can tell you that as a Texas-based mortgage bank with all of that in-house, we close the majority of our purchase in less than 21 days. Feel free to call or email me if you'd like more info.
