What collections MUST be paid for a FHA loan?

My lender advised me that any collection debt over $2000.00 must be settled, but it's about to come off of my credit report, and I am in the process of disputing it. Is my lender giving me correct information? by lindary948 from Atlanta, Georgia. Oct 1st 2015 Reply

Generally medical collections are looked at differently. If you are in a footprint state of my bank--we are mainly in the northeast...I can give you a 2nd opinion....Our min credit score requirement for fha is 580. If you dispute, get proof of any and all of this in writing from creditor or credit bureau. feel free to contact me at: jabennett2@mtb.com Jason Bennett NMLS 147890

If the debt is under dispute that will trigger different guidelines, but typically yes any non medical collection over 2K will have to be paid by closing on the mortgage.

There are a number of details about your situation, qualifications and credit that make a difference. Partly it depends whether/when your application was started and any lender overlays - extra requirements beyond what FHA technically requires.
