We are about to refinance when we discovered a credit mistake by our credit card company impact our credit negatively.

We have since corrected it with the credit card company, and they said they will report that to credit beareaus. Should we wait for this to happen naturally, or use my mortgage broker's expedite service (not sure what company they use) to remove this from our credit score faster? Any feedback is much appreciated. by JohnHigginbotham from Akron, Ohio. Mar 15th 2011 Reply

They are using what is called the Credit Analyzer and "Rapid Rescore", very effective tools when combating incorrect data on your Credit Report. I have done this for my client and increased his FICO by exactly 100 points! All due to one medical collection that was supposed to be paid. Well it was paid and he had the "Proof." I faxed that proof to my credit company and wallah, they removed the incorrect data and then we did the Rapid Re-score. You could wait, but did you get it in writing? Was it a late paytment? Late payments are a huge struggle. You may have to write to all 3 credit bureaus to dispute the late. I would not rely on what they say! 9 out of 10 times they will not do it. You have to go about the late payment differently, be pro-active. I am doing this now with another client. You can email me on this topic @ rconstantine@myhsoa.com I would be more than happy to answer further questions. My name is Rich, hope this helps! RC

If you are looking to lock in your interest rate while still low for the week, you might want to expedite the process. You mortgage broker can do a rapid rescore, which costs a few hundred bucks. Generally the company will eat the cost to obtain your business. Other option is to wait for your credit card company to send the change to the bureaus and wait for the bureaus to update. Could take them 30-60 days where a rapid rescore takes 3 days. Good luck!

Hi John.I always suggest that clients lock now if they are happy with the rate. Waiting to hit the rate at it's lowest point is no easier done than picking the time to buy gas at the lowest price. We generally don't win when we try to do that. Rapid Rescore takes approx 3 days and will cost you $30/account per bureau. If you only need the middle credit score increased, you may only need to have the credit card account updated on 1 or 2 of the bureaus which would cost $60 at most. If you need the account history to report correctly, then you may need to adjust all 3 bureaus costing $90. The best part of this is that lenders cannot charge for Rapid Rescore as it is a violation of lending laws. We do not charge for Rapid Rescore and can have you fixed very quickly. Hope this helps.
