We already are pre-approved for a loan and want to buy land and build on it.

Do we contact a builder first, or do we have to own the land first? What are the next steps? by bonnie727792 from Loma, Montana. Oct 22nd 2015 Reply

The best way to go about this is to find a lot first.. and then contact the builder.. your lender should guide you from there.. For some, it's less complicated if you already own the lot free-n-clear, but this is not necessarily the only way to do it.. I'm a Broker here in Scottsdale AZ and I only lend in Arizona. If you or someone you know is looking for financing options, feel free to contact me or pass along my information. William J. Look for a lot first. However, some builders already own parcels in developments. So it all depends on which way you want to go? Are you looking to build a home in a secluded area, or are you wanting to be in a neighborhood. Then go from there. Good Luck, on building your dream home.

Find the land/lot first or at least a general idea of where you want to be. Then find a builder who works in that area. Ask for references and recommendations when it comes to builders, make sure to do your homework before you decide to pick one or put down any money.
