Hello Mike,The deposit on the refinance doesn't make much sense unless it was for application fee or appraisal, you need to contact your loan office and ask what the money was being used for. depending your scenario and if you are located in California we can help you to recover your down payment and offer you the lowest available rate in the market, feel free to call or email - Houtan.Hormozian@Crestico.com 949 242 5215

Hi Mike. If you are refinancing your mortgage, I do not understand why the lender asked for you to "put down 500 dollars toward a down payment". Usually, there is no fee that you deposit with the lender unless it is the cost for the appraisal or maybe to Lock a Rate. If you decide to refinance with another lender, your $500 should be refundable unless you signed something stating that this money was non-refundable. I highly doubt that you did. Here at Freedom Mortgage, we are direct lenders and do not require any fee whatsoever at time of application. Moreover, we can usually beat whatever rate you were quoted. Please send me an email Mike so that I may provide you with a FREE quote. adennie@fmbranch.com. Thanks.
