Did they change this requirement for HARP 2.0? by TLannister from Middlefield, Connecticut. Dec 6th 2012
HARP 2.0 made it much easier to transfer the PMI from your old lender to the new one. I must say that I've found several people not even able to do this through their existing lender. I don't know if they are just to busy to add this one step to the refi process or some other business decision. However, you can go to another lender, but make certain you let them know up front, because lenders are few and far between that will do the HARP 2.0 with PMI. Always go to a Local mortgage broker first, since they are willing to spend the time and probably have better rates.
No you do not need to use your existing lender.. Most mortgage brokers are able to get your MI certificate transferred to the new lender without a problem.. The best advice I can give you is to contact a LOCAL mortgage broker and apply with them. Not the local "Big" bank, and certainly not one of those 50 states internet lenders, or nationwide lenders...By applying with your LOCAL Broker, you have an advantage because he's familiar with local customs and works with numerous lenders, seeking out the best loan terms for your particular scenario. Because he has lower overhead, he can offer you lower rates and lower fees than most of the larger lenders.. I'm a Broker here in Scottsdale AZ and I only lend in Arizona.
