I wanted to compare different lenders but the rep at the bank told me my credit will tank

Is that true? I can't tell if they're just trying to get me to get a mortgage through them. But I know having credit pulled for a new credit card weakens my score so hoping for the right answer! by killianarmistice8... from Columbus, Ohio. Dec 3rd 2014 Reply

false for the most part. Usually when they tell you that , it means they don't want you to shop around. Having your credit pulled a few times for a mortgage loan shouldn't ding your score. If you would like to ask me any questions please feel free to call John Regg at 513-229-9667. Thank you

Lie... big fat lie... ALL mortgage related credit reports pulled within a 30-day window only count as 1-inquiry. Next, you need to have a LOT of inquiries within the past 90-days of the pull to even slightly lower your score... In general it is both true and untrue; I personally would not have multiple lenders check my credit. However, you can shop around for mortgage rates and fees without having your credit pulled by each lender as long as you tell each of them the same basic information (loan scenario's are based on: purpose of the loan, type of property, credit score, loan amount, property value, etc) you will be able to compare "apples to apples" - but pay attention to APR, total loan amount and the fees you are paying.

I agree with John Regg above. The only way that would hurt your score is if you went "trigger happy" with getting your report pulled. Talk to a few lenders and go with who you feel to be most knowledgeable. Whomever has the most knowledge will be able to point you towards the most BENEFICIAL loan for your scenario!Hope this helps!
