My husband was a veteran but passed away...can I still get a VA loan as his widow?

We had saved up enough for a down payment and were looking into buying a house right before he passed away. His passing wasn't related to his service time. I have a good credit score, steady income, etc. Is this possible for a VA loan?? by RachTy84 from Poway, California. May 24th 2013 Reply

Hello,If your late husband was eligible for a VA loan, you should still be entitled to that benefit. We can help you obtain the eligibility form and other needed documents to make sure you will qualify. please feel free to contact our Sr. VA Loan Officer by calling 310-348-7878 for more information or visit us online at www.crestico.com

It's not that easy of a question to answer based on the limited info you provided.. in general, if your spouse died while active military, or from an injury he sustained during his active period, then it's possible.. you cannot have remarried, and you must be younger than 57 years of age.. here's the link to VA's website outlining eligibility requirements for surviving spouses.. http://www.benefits.va.gov/HOMELOANS/purchaseco_eligibility.asp?expandable=0&subexpandable=0.... I'm a Broker here in Scottsdale AZ and I only lend in Arizona. If you or someone you know is looking for financing options, feel free to contact me or pass along my information. 480-287-5714 WilliamAcres.com

Yes, as long as your husband was VA eligible

Based on your husband having been eligible, as long as you meet the other requirements, you would be able to use his benefit to purchase a home. I am sure you have enough down payment, as the VA doesn't require a down payment -- but putting one down will lower your monthly payments.
