Middle FICO score of 661, can I qualify for a home loan?

I'm looking for a home within 210-230k, I have roughly 30k for a down payment and make around $5,000 a month. With my credit and that down payment, do you think I could qualify for an FHA loan? by connor_486_872 from Fargo, North Dakota. Jan 6th 2012 Reply

Hey Connor... Based on the limited information you provided, you will have no problem qualifying. FHA requires 3.5% down, and most lenders want credit scores to be over 640... Hi Connor,I would concur with the answer below as far as the qualification. However, I would not be so quick to dismiss a direct lender. My suggestion would be to speak to various types of mortgage providers. 1) Mortgage Broker2) Large Retail Lender (Wells, Suntrust, etc)3) Small bank or correspondent lender. (Type of institution I work for)They each have their pros and cons. Absolutely, FHA only requires a 3.5% down payment and your credit score is above the minimum needed. A lender still needs to check you out to make sure your income will support your existing paymetns as well as the new payment. My best advice is to contact a local Mortgage Banker/Broker, rather than one of the big banks. Unlike a bank employee, who is most likely just an order taker, a Mortgage Broker/Banker is Trained, Tested and Licensed in all aspects of Mortgage Origination. He/She will have access to loan products of many lenders, not just those of one bank, and can properly guide you. But more importantly, He/She is trained to take a look at the various different options available to you and guide you into the one that makes the best sense for your situation.
