Hi Gamori, well, as a last resort, yes, it will obviously affect your credit as you have to be late in order to do this typically, and of course, only your current service provider can do it and they would have to be willing to do it...As long as you can show a long term hardship, it will probably work. Best of luck to you.

Hamp(Home AffordableModificarion Program) will be a great fit for you if you can demonstrate a legitimate hardship, Gam. They will either move principle around or forgive some if applicable and your rate should be reduced to make it a much more affordable payment. If you are in NY, don't hesitate to ask an attorney or RE professional for help and/or advise. Good luck.

HAMP modifications in most cases will have a negative impact on your credit.. Understand that the program has very specific guidelines regarding qualifying and how much your payment relief will be.. over 80% of those seeking HAMP modifications see little or no relief.. but the biggest problem is that you are required to submit all this paperwork ahead of time, and your required to pay during a trial period.. only to find out months later that you don't qualify.. Not trying to discourage you.. just letting you know what your in for.. to start the HAMP process, contact your existing lender, as they are the only one's who can do it for you..
