If you're referring to the $8,000 tax credit, that has been over for several years.

I am in Ohio, so I am not sure about CA, but you might be eligible for some different grant programs. This is not the same as I believe you are thinking of, but your local Lender, or local housing authority can tell if there is anything available in your area. Hope this helps you some, Kitsy Burt

The First Time Home Owners Rebate of $8000 has discontinued.. If you're talking about "Grant" money... that's different... Contact a LOCAL, mortgage broker, not a bank.. They are familiar with the LOCAL grant and down payment assistance programs and can look at your complete profile and find the right loan product for your particular scenario.. WilliamAcres.com

The short answer is no. There never was a federal program for first time homeowners. There were to variations of tax "credits" for first time homebuyers that existed in the last few years, but they are long gone. Most grant programs today are needs based and many don't have funding. I would suggest you contact a local mortgage Banker/Broker to assist you in determining what programs are available in the area you are looking in. ~ Bert Carpenter, The LoansA2z team of NOVA Home Loans ~ NMLS 40586 ~ www.LoansA2z.com
