Bradley, Home Inspection is your choice. An Appraisal always. Keep in mind that you should look into a termite inspection, Radon Test, Septic Inspection, Well Test if its a Single Family Residence. The home inspection is optional and you can chose not to have one completed. The appraisal is required to verify that the property is worth what you are paying for it.
The inspection is optional, but HIGHLY recommended! If you are tight on cash it is acceptable for the seller to pay your closing costs and prepaid expenses (first year insurance, setting up escrows, etc) at closing - but you'd have the expense out of pocket before then.
More info required. An appraisal is required.. no exceptions.. and the appraisal is aa form of inspection, but it's not the same as a full property inspection that looks for all defects... Although it's not required by USDA, it is advised you get one.. paying $400 to $600 today could save you the expense of a costly repair in the future..
