Living with my in-laws. They pay the mortgage while we pay the utilities and the taxes. Now they're asking that we pay for half of the mortgage (both my in-laws work full-time and are healthy) but they won't add us to the title. We can't afford to move out and paying for half is still cheaper than rent but it seems unfair. Suggestions? by sekiya826 from Atwood, Tennessee. Oct 10th 2019
No...you pointed it out yourself..it is cheaper than rent....it is their home. So you are betting a below market rent as a family perk. You are tenants living with them. They are not giving ownership.
Draw up an agreement between both of you and the in-laws. Take the agreement to a notary and then you have a document in place for future reference in case things chance within the household.
