I see an article on this site that says today rates hit lowest in a year. Is that correct?

Should we try to lock today? by JasonGibbs from Salt Lake City, Utah. May 6th 2011 Reply

Mortgage interest rates -- just like stock prices -- change price daily and you can win big or lose big if you don't know what you are doing. For the homebuyer that is "shopping" for a mortgage, or waiting for rates to fall, or just "hasn't gotten around to it", we suggest you almost always lock, and to do it quickly. The sooner you lock your rate, the less chance you have of losing in the Mortgage Rate game. If you are refinancing, you can gamble a bit more, but if you have a signed purchase contract in hand, lock your rate as soon as possible. There is no better way to protect yourself from the fickle mortgage markets. Holding out for 1/8th - 1/4% more is just not worth the risk! If you want to gamble... go to Vegas. Rates have been trending down for the last week. If you feel that the rate you are offered comes with a good payment and you apr is low, then you should take advantage before a swing in the market.

Yes rates are good right now. But often times reports in the media don't coincide with real time. In addition you have to get along the process before you can actually lock in a rate. So I would suggest you move on things and get the best rate you can and never look back. That being said, rates are good right now so I would suggest you jump on it.

The rates are the lowest so far this year. Not during the past 12 months. You could cautiously float but things could reverse very quickly. You may want to lock now simply to avoid the volatility. I would be happy to discuss this with you further. George WeisenburgerCastle & Cooke MortgageNMLS #6389801-274-6555georgew@castlecooke.com

hi there:Rates are still low and seem to be dipping a bit. I can actually lock a rate with our pricing dept without receiving a full approval with my bank depending on your fico score etc. If interested would be glad to discuss programs and monthly payments..Tax deductible on mtg interests you pay.
