my home is a second home and used for investment property as i have 3 room boarders. can i still get a refinance with fannie mae HARP even if i have the commercial insurance? i could still get another conventional policy as it is not illegal to have two homeowners insurance policies but can only collect one amount between the two. let me know if i should go through with the refinance having my commercial insurance. thanks don by donvangie1313765 from Neosho, Missouri. Since the property is a residence and is used for residential rentals, then you can refinance it... Some lenders might have a problem with one policy covering multiple properties, but usually these type of umbrella policies are supplemental to an individual policy for the property.. to be eligible for a HARP refi, the loan would need to have been purchased by FNMA on or before June 30, 2009. There are other qualification, but that's the biggest one.. not every lender will do HARP refi's on investment, so you need to be sure the lender you choose will allow it.. .. I am a licensed insurance agent (but not in your state) and a mortgage guy. The house is either a second home or an investment. Not both. Do you claim rental income on your taxes. Do you have a rental insurance policy? Underwriters are not insurance agents. Seems you've got a lot going on. Having a double policy is something you should rethink... Just do everything right. These days there is no hiding anything.
