There are no programs out there that will help someone buy a home with grant money and bad credit.. so the right direction would be to get your credit repaired/fixed.. regardless of how much "Free Money" there is out there, you need to have satisfactory credit to get a mortgage.. .. I'm a Broker here in Scottsdale AZ and I only lend in Arizona. If you or someone you know is looking for financing options, feel free to contact me or pass along my information. 480-287-5714 WilliamAcres.com
Down payment assistance is available in many areas for those who qualify... But getting a loan with bad credit is a whole different story.
I don't know of any programs for buyers with bad credit. Texas may have something that I am not aware of. Most states have grants or down payment assistance programs but you need to have at qualify with a lender and most require at least 620 credit score. You might want to consider credit repair.
I worked for nonprofit housing agencies for a long time offering the type "grants" mention. You have to remember that the "grant" programs work in conjunction with a purchase mortgage and each has separate requirements. However, if you don't qualify for the grant if you can't get a mortgage due to credit challenges.
PS. You can try your LOCAL Consumer Credit Counseling Service for help with the credit issues, or check with the TX. Dept of Housing & Community Affairs for local resources: 800-792-1119.
