This question is impossible to answer.. so much credit info is analyzed in the credit scoring model/algorithm, that there are no two files alike.. If you have 20 open active accounts, and never paid anyone late ever, but you owe 80% on revolving.. you could still have a 720 credit score.. paying down the CC's could increase the score 60 points.. but for someone with a lot of bad credit, and only 1 credit card at 80%, but pay's it down to 30%.. it might not have any affect at all.. If you get with a mortgage lender, they can run your file thorough the "What-If" simulator.. they can change the values and see what the "Estimated" change would be to the score.. it's fairly accurate, but if the credit is run today, you make payments to the CC's lowering the balances to 30% or lower, and then 3 weeks later re run a new report to see the scores.. then there could be other things that have changed in that period of time that could impact the score positively or negatively.. so again, it's impossible to answer.. The best advice I can give you is to contact a LOCAL mortgage broker and apply with them. Once they see your complete loan profile, they will be better equipped to advise you properly. Also, by applying with your LOCAL Broker, you have an advantage because he's familiar with local customs and works with many lenders with each one offering a different type of lending program. This is unlike the local bank which typically only has a few lending programs. The more lenders, the more lending options, and the more likely your scenario will be accepted.. Plus, the broker is experienced in seeking out the best loan terms for your particular scenario, and he has lower overhead which typically results in lower rates and fees than most of the larger lenders.. I'm a Broker here in Scottsdale AZ and I only lend in Arizona. If you or someone you know is looking for financing options, feel free to contact me or pass along my information. William J. As William states, no one know the answer to that. Generally speaking, you would see quite an improvement going from an 80% utilization to a 30% utilization all other things being equal.

Remember, ideally the balance on all credit cards should be less than 30%, not just the aggregate amount for all of them. However, you can see some quick improvement by focusing first on the accounts with the smaller limits and balances. (Easier to get below 30% on a $500 limit card, than on one with $5000 limit...!)
