When you take an equity loan those are your funds to do with as you see fit....it's very smart to use those lower rate HELOC funds and pay off higher interest rate debt like credit cards and student loans. So, yes, by all means do that.

HELOC funds are yours to do with whatever you wish.. But you need to consider the best use of funds.. if your borrowing at 8% and your student loans are at 5%, then I wouldn't advise you to pay them off with your HELOC, since you would be paying more interest.. As Travis suggested.. Pay off your higher interest debt first.. I'm a Broker here in Scottsdale AZ and I only lend in Arizona. That would be a very smart financial decision, assuming your heloc has better terms than your student loans. Best Of Luck!

Sure, you can, but it's not always wise. It depends on the rate for the new loan vs the rate on the student loans. If the rate on the new loan is fixed and better, then it may be a good solution, but if the rate on the new loan is variable, I would not advise it without more specifics. ~ Bert Carpenter, The LoansA2z team of NOVA Home Loans ~ NMLS 40586 ~ www.LoansA2z.com 888-889-9950
