First Time Home Buyer

I am ready to buy my first home previously I had co-signed a home loan for a relative. However, I do not claim the property (that I previously co-signed for) on my taxes, nor do I make any payments towards the loan. I am simply a co-signer. Will I still be able to claim the 8000 first time home buyer tax credit? by marrye33 from Barstow, California. Apr 27th 2010 Reply

The California Tax credit is still available. Have you found a property yet?

Since you didnt claim it on your taxes then you might be able to but you only have until the end of the month to go into escrow! Depending on your state, there are some new credits for first time homebuyers that start May 1st. The following link will guide you to the form to fill out.http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f5405.pdfCall me with any questions...
