fico score

Where is the best place on the net to get an accurate fico score? I've looked at several places and it can vary from 50-100 points. by ncylou_313_981 from Severn, Maryland. May 29th 2012 Reply

As Bert indicated, based on the scoring model, you FICO will vary.. The credit pulls used for a mortgage loan are based on the likelihood of a borrower defaulting on a mortgage.. if you apply for a car loan, the score will be based on the likelihood of the borrower having a repossession.. Etc... You can get your score on line, but because it's not being requested by a lender, but instead, a general consumer inquiry, it will show a score, but could be very different if you're looking to see where you are in relation to a mortgage.. For that reason our industry calls those type of scores the FAKO score... we have seen the "Free" credit scores vary as much as 100 points.. it will give you false hope if your relying on it to see if you qualify for a mortgage.. if you want to know for sure, you should contact a LOCAL mortgage broker, not the local "Big" bank, and certainly not one of those 50 states internet lenders...By applying with your LOCAL Broker, you have an advantage because he's familiar with local customs and works with numerous lenders, seeking out the best loan terms for your particular scenario. Because he has lower overhead, he can offer you lower rates and lower fees than most of the larger lenders.. I'm a Broker here in Scottsdale AZ and I only lend in Arizona. If you or someone you know is looking for financing options, feel free to contact me or pass along my information. 480-287-5714 WilliamAcres.com

There are various different scoring models. The score you get will differ based on the model chosen. The score model for a mortgage is different than the one a bank will use for a HELOC, and is different than the model used for car loans which is different than the one used for credit cards, etc. Although they are all different, they are all accurate. ~ Bert Carpenter, The LoansA2z team of NOVA Home Loans ~ NMLS 40586 ~ www.LoansA2z.com 888-889-9950

You can see the same FICO scores I see from www.myfico.com. Everyplace else provides you with "consumer" scores, not "FICO" scores. And you won't receive an "inquiry" ding when you pull your own credit from myfico.com, because it's considered a "soft" pull when consumers access their own FICO scores, whereas it's a "hard" pull when I do it. If you're shopping for a mortgage, pull your own FICO scores first, provide them to the Loan Officers you're receiving quotes from, and specifically tell the Loan Officers they are not to pull your credit. That way your FICO scores will be the absolute highest when you finally select a Lender.
