Difficulty in Getting a Mortgage

I am in the process of completing a mortgage for a home we are buying within the year. I have an excellent credit score, am well paid, and have been with my employer for the past 10 years. I have no debts and I am excited to purchase my new home. The problem is, my lender has been asking for way too many requirements in my opinion just to get approved. They asked for 3 years of tax returns, 2 months of savings and checking, all paycheck stubs plus pay stubs for bonuses received. Some of the requests felt very intrusive and offensive. I remember when all you needed to get a loan was to provide a bank statement and that was it. Is it really that hard to get a mortgage these days? by jbryan85 from Georgetown, Georgia. Well, like it or not, those are pretty common requirements, and have always been pretty common requirements, except for a short period of time in the early 2000 when we gave loans to anyone, and you could, with good credit and with willing to accept a higher interest rate, you could possibly buy with just proving your down payment (bank statement). Next, each file is different, but your last 30-days of pay stubs, your last W2, and two month of bank statements is across the board for everyone. Providing these documents is not hard, millions of people do it every year - and what would YOU ask for to feel OK giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to a stranger? I lend in MN WI IA ND SD.
