In the porcess of applying for a loan (BB&T) , I was required to pay $18 for a credit report. After being denied the loan, I asked the mortgage lender for a copy of the credit report and she told me she could give me a copy. I know that I can go online and get a free copy, but that doesn't the credit score that was given to the lender. If the consumer pays for the report, shouldn't the consumer receive a copy? by nunnyd from Atlanta, Georgia. Nov 18th 2014
I think you miss worded your question.. you're saying you asked and they gave it to you, but I think you meant they didn't give it to you.. Under the agreement your lender has with the credit reporting agency, they are not allowed to give you a copy.. Under federal law, you're allowed to get a free copy of your credit report from each bureau every year. This free report does not include a credit score. (you can obtain these free reports by going to https://www.annualcreditreport.com/index.action) To get the scores, you have to pay..I'm a Broker here in Scottsdale AZ and I only lend in Arizona. Get a credit report for $1 at www.identityguard.com (cost of the 1st one; you can cancel after). Be careful where you get your "score", many will provide a "Vantage" score which is not the same as used by a lender. Most lenders will send you an automatic disclosure that has at least one of the scores. The bigger issue is why your score is low and what you can do to improve it.
Then you'll have to use one of the other resources mentioned. Other lenders would likely have been able to provide you a copy of the report and many loan officers would want to continue working with you to improve your qualifications and eventually help you to buy a home. Most do not get paid until you actually buy a house so we often work with customers for months before actually moving ahead with an application.
I am a broker and will pull your report for free and send it to you for free. Lets discuss your options. 6478-571-7433. If I cant do it then no one can but I will direct you to a niche bank if I know of one.
