Credit Report has no Score!

My husband is in the military and we are currently stationed in Europe. We are moving to San Diego in October and we will be looking to buy a house over the Christmas holidays. In an effort to see how much money we would qualify for we wanted to pull our credit score, however, we were unable to do it using an international ISP. Long story short, I had my mother do it from her computer in the USA and she printed out 25 pages of information but could not find a numerical score. Is the "Free Credit Report" we are allowed to get once per year from each of the big three companies just that - a report? If you want to see "the score" do you have to pay for it? And does anyone know if I can get my credit score online while I am overseas? Thanks. by cmaket_216_960 from San Diego, California. Sep 28th 2011 Reply

Free credit report only provides the report itself. If you want scores they will charge you for them.

Shop for a mortgage broker, not a bank, in the area you wish to live... he can run your credit and forward you a copy... He can also look at your report and identify any problems or concerns that might interfere with your plans.. he will be able to help you get any issues cleaned up prior to your application.. Unfortunately, the FTC rule that requires the big three credit agency to give you a copy of the credit report they have for you does not require them to give you the score. I agree with William, you should seek out a Mortgage Broker or a Mortgage Banker. Both of these types of mortgage lenders have the ability to shop for you to find the best program and rates. Using one of the "big banks" will only get you whatever they are offering, and it may not be the best for your situation. There are also web sites that offer you your credit report and score "for free", but the catch is you give them permission to market you (sell your name and credit info) to other firms to try and sell you something. My advice to my customers is to Never, ever use these sites.

Don't pull your scores online, they are not the correct ones anyway and it's a waste of your time. Contact a broker and have then do it for you and get pre-approved at the same time. Contact me if you need assistance, Tripoint Mortgage is local to San Diego.
