Title costs and appraisal fees are hard costs and usually are not negotiable.. however if your purchasing a home, you can ask the seller to contribute towards your costs, or if your refinancing, you can choose a slightly higher interest rate and get a lender credit which can be used to pay your costs, but as Peter said.. Jamila, If the question is does it have to come out of your pocket the answer is No it does not have to come out of your pocket. Many people may tell you that there are discounts or free but as these other fine lenders have stated, If you are in a real estate transaction someone will pay the third party costs. Appraisers are in business as well as title companies and escrow companies. All that means that in the end you will pay for it. Either in the price of the home or the price of the mortgage.
