Can I use a FHA loan for a new construction home, or just on a pre-existing property?

Yes and No.. If you're talking about a tract home where the builder takes a deposit from you, and 6 to 9 months later when the home is complete, then you apply for a mortgage and close.. then yes.. this type of financing is done all the time, and it's really no different than regular FHA financing.. but if your asking about having a custom home built using FHA, then you might have a problem.. FHA does offer this type of construction to perm financing, but most all lenders do not, so finding that needle in the haystack lender is going to be difficult..
