can i prequalify for a home loan if I do not have one of my W2s?

I have been working at the same job for 3 years now. I can not locate my 2011 W2 but I have 2012. I plan to put 20% - 30% or more down and when I checked my credit score last year it was in the 700's. I have all other financial documents in hand including my 2011 tax return that has all my W2 info plugged into it. Will that suffice or do I absolutely need both W2s? by conner_641_855 from Vallejo, California. Feb 4th 2013 Reply

No problem. I'm happy to help anytime you are ready as our company is a Federally Chartered Bank and a Nationwide Direct Lender with In-House Underwriting. Purchase Files are being processed the same day a complete file is submitted. If you'd like to get Pre-Approved, let me know. I'm here to help!

In most cases 2 years tax returns and 30 days pay stubs will suffice. Having your last 2 w2s is a lender overlay.

Conner: Lenders can obtain your IRS transcripts as an alternative. You should have no problem, lots of people lose their W-2's. There is a resolution for this!

You do not need both yrs W-2. If you have 2 yrs tax returns that will suffice. We also pull a 4506 tax transcript and your W-2 info will appear on those as well. It is not a requirement although some lenders afraid of not being able to sell their loans will fall on their swords and ask for it. We will not.

You can get pre-approved without it.. but you'll need to finalize then loan (closing). The easiest way is to simply contact that employer and ask. You can also get it from the IRS. There are even some web sites that will get it for you (for a fee).
