I'm a bit confused by the question, but I think you are asking if the veteran is not on the actual loan, can you still get a VA loan, and the answer is NO. The Veteran must be on the actual loan application. I do VA loans in MN, WI, and SD. I can be reached at VAMortgageMN.com (NMLS274132)

At least one veteran in the household does need to be a borrower for the loan in order to obtain a VA loan. Depending on if you are looking for down payment assistance or no down payment, USDA offers home loans with no down payment. Also a few lenders work with a mid FICO score as low as 500 for veterans. Are you looking to move to another state of stay in CA? I am licensed for residential lending throughout KS and MO.

If you are the VA then just need spouses credit pulled & spouses fico is not used.Credit Enhancement is a great option to work on and there are Lenders who accept FICO's below 680.
